Azeroth Going Boom (Patch 4.0.3a) Equals Mining Monkeys, Badass Gnomes, and Whirlpools of Death! WoW is FUN again!

Yes this is in the middle of Stranglethorn Vale.

Hello Friends,

So I messed around on the Public Test Realm yesterday, and they had up Patch 4.0.3a, aka when Azeroth goes boom.  And let me tell you, it was a blast! (Sorry for the bad joke).  In all seriousness it was the most fun I’ve had in WoW since I have started playing (almost 6 years ago…eek!).  This patch also somehow made me actually enjoy playing the laughing stock of the Alliance, the Gnomes.  Whaaaaat?

As your probably know, in patch 4.0.3a every single zone in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms has been tweaked somewhat, with zones being completely unrecognizable.  Take a look at this shot from the middle of Stranglethorn Vale, one of the most altered zones.

Yes this is in the middle of Stranglethorn Vale.

Careful where you run in the new patch. This leads to nowhere....except death!

If you are an adventurous, curious type like myself, you are undoubtedly thinking…what if I jump in it?  So I did jump…but I am not going to tell you what happened, because well, even possible suicide attempts should be experienced yourself.  Let me just say between the new gorgeous Stormwind resembling the city of Venice (Don’t run too fast to the Park section of SW…I warned you), Deadmines being amazingly revamped including mining monkeys (refer to picture for le proof), and making a gnome starting area that actually makes you proud to be a gnome….well Blizzard has truly outdone themselves.

Mining Monkey works diligently!

This Mining Monkey clearly has no mining experience...look at how he holds the pick!

So speaking of the gnomes I will touch briefly on their new zone, and just questing in general.  And I will do this in list form, because list form is the shit:

1.) Any character of mine that is not 80 right now, I kind of want to delete and re-level.

Questing is so tight, which means no more running across zones for only one quest collecting boar ribs.  Also since all the starting areas are changed, it feels like a brand new game, where anything is possible!

2.) New Music in Gnomes Starting Zone is Awesome!

The Gnome starting area made me actually feel happy, and optimistic about life.  I attribute this to the amazing new music added by Blizzard, and the fact that helping gnomes feels like some sort of charity work where you help the disabled.

3.) These aren’t your pre-Cataclysm gnomes….

Got ya, Bitch!

Having finally been thrown out of Ironforge, the gnomes are taking their battle to the streets….okay well, the icy terrain of Dun Morogh.  You get to use a variety of weapons, including that oil blaster above, and it all leads up to a climatic battle seen below, that was truly fun from beginning to end. I highly recommend leveling a gnome priest to anyone who doesn’t have a priest character.  You won’t be disappointed.

Gnomes fighting gnomes. Almost like a cripple fight.

4.) Star Wars references FTW!

Star Wars references are in full force in the gnome starting zone (2 bad jokes!) including, Very Light Sabre, and Death Star.

5.) This is only the half of it.

We still have the Worgen/Goblin stuff (which is incredible), the level 80-85 content, and flying in Azeroth coming our way in Cata.  I must say that while initially skeptical of this expansion, Blizzard has made a believer out of me that this is going to be one very fun Xpac!

So let me know what you guys think down in the comments, and what you are looking  forward to.  Couple things I didn’t get a chance to mention were all quests for dungeons are now sitting at the beginning waiting for you, and that there are flight points EVERYWHERE….even Goldshire!  Do you like this ease to leveling or does it take the challenge out of it for you? (No more epic dungeon quest chains, etc., etc.)
