Alt-erations

September 12, 2010

Rowynne sucks. I hate her.

In theory, she’s great. She’s a cute little night elf hunter with an awesome name  and a great tanking pet with an awesome name (Ruxpin is just the best), but every time I start to think that I’m getting the hang of playing as her, she reminds me why she sucks so much.

Let me enumerate:

Her DPS is awful, she has to stop and regain mana/health after almost every attack, and she dies ALL THE FREAKING TIME.

It’s just so frustrating. And I feel that playing as an alt shouldn’t be stressful–it should be fun, right?

So, I think I’m going to abandon her. At least for the time being.

Which means….bring on a new alt!
In my deliberations about making a new alt,  I think I’m going to give myself an entirely new WoW experience–I’m gonna make the switch from Alliance to Horde.

*giant audible gasp*

The only reason I’m Alliance in the first place is because Nick insisted that I be so that I could play with him. Which is fair, because I do love playing with him and without him there is no way I would have made it this far in the game…at least, not as quickly as I have.

But, in all honesty, my first choice of a character was a blood elf. (And yes, it’s because they are pretty.) So I might just have to go with that. [Note: I kind of also want a little gnomey. So many options! So little time!]

And I’m thinking I either want to be a mage or a priest…but I’m pretty open-minded about the whole ordeal.

Suggestions? Comments? Advice? I’ll take whatever you throw at me.

Totally welcome. I’ll be honest, I love playing the Horde, though gnomes are soooo cute. I have a 64 BE hunter and a lvl 80 Death Knight. I can’t help it, I love my death knight.

So yes, welcome to the darkside. You’ll find that we have the best cookies!

Priests are fairly hard until you get shadow form.(Lvl 40ish?) Especially if mana conservation is one of your main concerns. Even in full BOA gear I have to drink every couple minutes. I had an easier time leveling a Warlock or Mage. Rogue was pretty easy lvling too.
Good luck and welcome to the horde!

I love the priest class, I have two of them, one bloof elf, and they are very beautiful.

It’s true they can be sluggish to level.
I tried two leveling styles and I recommend going disc (smite spec) untill lvl 50-ish, where mindflay starts doing better damage, thus turning shadow becomes stronger.

I liked your post, thought it was spicy and upbeat!

for leveling hunter dps is far superior to other classes. you are doing something wrong.
and that health/mana (plus dieing) thing, never experienced that as well.
there must be something you screw up Oo

i think leveling on a pally just spoiled me. *sigh*

…but it’s not out of the question that i’m doing something very weird/wrong when it comes to my hunter…haha

@goddyGodsen, you think that perhaps not everyone enjoys the experience of leveling as a hunter? I have leveled a priest, warrior, and mage to 80, and tried to do a hunter, but just hated it. So yeah, different classes for different play styles, no reason to be hatin’ on a blog.

I have made a few attempts as a hunter as well, and despite the fact they are a very good solo class to level, I sucked too and gave up. The whole pet thing was messy to me.
Playstyles and class preferences are very individual.

Well for what it’s worth my first main char was a hunter and I think deep down I will always be a hunter at heart. I too also think you are probably doing something wrong and it could be something so simple. Out of interest what spec are you levelling as? You also have a tanking pet and for what its worth I would go for a dps pet for levelling (but i’m no expert and will never claim to be, just trying to work out why you are struggling)

I also have a mage @ 80 and these are great fun and I found mine very easy to level (she too is a sexy Blood Elf) and I find the class just awesome and she soon became my main. Then I levelled a pally to 80 and have just switched her to Alliance and currently love that class so am currently concentrating on her….

but go with what you’re comfortable with. All classes have their for’s and against, it’s playing them that you discover this.

    Enjoy your mage 😉

Ha. There are many many things wrong with my poor hunter.

I speced as Marksmanship because that sounded like the best idea…but after reading a bit it looks as if Beast Mastery is better for leveling.

When I get more in-game monies, I will re-spec her and hopefully that will help. I should probably also get a DPS pet…hahaha.

Yes I would definately advise to respec BM. When you are levelling as MM you are way out dps’n your pet so will take the aggro, hence they attack you. As BM use it to its potential and keep it healed and you shouldn’t die unless you really pull a lot and you will find it a lot easier. You will find that you may also level a bit quicker.

I love cats and once you get ‘dash’ you will grow to love them too (can’t remember what level you get that) but yes give it another go before you ditch her completely.
